My work at Sigma Systems involved me in various roles at different levels in
the organization, filling positions of increased responsibility. Sigma changed ownership, in
August 2002, when it was acquired by Liberate Technologies and then re-acquired by the original
owners in November 2003. In 2015 Sigma received an investment from Birch Hill Equity Partners.
Sigma Order Management
Senior Architect / Team Lead
Sigma Order Management pioneered a new approach to order management, competing with well-established names in the industry.
Part of the Create-Sell-Deliver Suite, OM joined multiple products in an end-to-end solution for the Telecom industry.
I lead a team of 5 developers focused on the domain APIs, web applications and tooling provided with the product. However, my involvement and responsibilities went well beyond that.
The OM project is fully embracing Agile Development and the team has experimented and introduced the methodology and tooling to the other teams in Sigma.
My responsibilities include: planning, estimation, design, task assignment, team leadership, code development, code and documentation reviews, and mentorship.
In addition, I am using the opportunity to introduce a host of innovations, as well as refresh the technology stack used at Sigma:
- Builds – a mix of Maven and SBT builds are now used instead of old proprietary Ant based scripts
- Design – introduced Domain Driven Design. Increase focus on boundary APIs to allow easier parallel development
- Testing – introduction of Cucumber
- UIs – designed and developed scalable applications using Play Framework
- Coding practices – established standards, introduced metrics monitoring with SonarQube
Subscriber Information Service
Architect / Team Lead
Lead a team of five developers to develop a niche product to be used in an Advanced Advertising ecosystem of best of breed, standard compliant services capable of delivering targeted advertising for Telecom/Cable Companies.
The SIS product is a direct implementation of the SCTE130 SIS Standard to which I was the main contributor.
My responsibilities included: requirements gathering, planning, design, estimation, task assignment, high level and low level design, code development, reviews and mentorship
The SIS intellectual property was later acquired by OpenTV, a company with a much larger footprint in the digital television market.
Subscriber Profile Manager
Architect
Customer Service Representative facing application that manages subscribers and their orders in an enterprise OSS/J system that automates service provisioning.
Using this web application, users can capture provisioning orders as well as inspect and monitor existing orders. I designed and implemented a platform that allows for a large
degree of customization in order to adapt to various commercial and residential use cases.
MyOffice Employee
Architect
Web application allowing employees of small business companies to manage their own VOIP lines. Developed with current technologies like Play Framework, Bootstrap, jQuery,
this application facilitates self-management of the voice services, thus emprowering the businesses and reducing the call center load on the Provider.
MyOffice Admin
Architect
A Single Page Web Application (SPA) allowing IT administrators of small business companies to manage VOIP services. Developed with ExtJS, this application emphasizes ease of use and improved user
experience for tasks that are typically reserved for trained CSRs.
